Ya Yang is originally from China and has a background in plant systematics and macroevolution. The Yang Lab combines field and collection-based approaches with computational tools to connect transcriptomic and genomic data to trait evolution at the macroevolutionary scale. Current projects in the lab include 1) reconstruct species relationships 2) detect polyploidy and reticulate evolution and 3) explore gene families and modules involved in secondary metabolites, stress tolerance, and chromosome evolution.
